Force User:
-
The force is an energy field that connects all living things. Some can sense it and others are able to make use of it. Rey is untrained and only recently became aware of her ability to use the Force but is learning to use these powers to get out of dangerous situations. Rey is starting to test her new found power. So far she has used it to resist and reverse a mind probe, and to use a mind trick to compel a stormtrooper to release her and drop his weapon.
There are several powers force users have access to, including:
Influencing weaker minds
The ability to push, pull, and lift physical objects by manipulating the energy in and around them
The ability to sense impending attacks
-
Fighting with a quarterstaff
Identifying, salvaging, and restoring scrap parts to assorted machinery
Quick to learn what is and isn't useful or salvageable
An innate ability to understand mechanics of how various machinery works
A skilled pilot (Of ships familiar within the Star Wars universe)
Learning through reading and simulations
Surviving in harsh environments by learning about and observing the world around her
Surviving an environment full of dangerous creatures, violent individuals, and harsh living conditions
Remaining in peak physical condition for this purpose
Understanding several SW languages, including Binary and Shyriiwook
A quick ear and mind for learning new languages
-
Hope
- Rey grew up in an environment of opportunistic betrayal, survival of the fittest, and limited resources. Despite this, she has managed to remain optimistic. This extends beyond her persistent dedication to waiting for her family to come back for her. Rey believes if you give life an inch, it will find a way to survive. She collects dessert plants from Jakku's wasteland to remind herself of this.
- While Rey is far from fearless, she often pushes past her fear for the sake of courage. She is brave, resilient, and does not back down from fights on Jakku, even when outnumbered. In Jakku, the weak do not survive. A display of weakness leads to people trying to take advantage of her, take her things, or attack her further. Rey has learned to fight for her survival and act confident.
- Beyond her refusal to give up hope on a return she knows is never coming, Rey is tenacious. She taught herself many languages through constant interaction with crews passing through Jakku. These included the language of droids (Binary) and Wookiee (Shyriiwook). She scoured flight and ship manuals to learn which parts from the ships were useful or not, and how to repair them. Through flight simulators, she taught herself to be an excellent pilot. She also learned how to defend herself ad fight with a staff enough to best even Plutt's goons at times. She did all this on her own.
- Jakku is a world filled with violence, death, and betrayal. Rey experienced all these first hand. While she did learn to be a loner and look out for herself first, she remains kind and compassionate.
-
Fear
- Despite her courage and outward confidence, Rey is still a young woman who lives a lot of her life looking over her shoulder as she fights to just make it day to day. She's afraid of admitting that she has waited for nothing, afraid to leave Jakku and miss the return of those who left her, and afraid of her destiny when it finally catches up to her in Maz's castle. She fights not to let it show but it bleeds through at her vulnerable moments.
- Rey has survived on her own for so long she has a hard time accepting help from others. She stubbornly fights to stand on her own, even when she could really use an extra hand, shrugging off attempts at hand holding (figurative or literal) and proudly boasting or claiming in frustration that she can take care of her self
- More than anything, Rey has been seeking a sense of belonging. She wants to belong and she wants her family to come rescue her so badly she ignores even her own awareness that they are never coming back for her. She was also prone to imagining herself in far away green worlds, having adventures with her imaginary friend as a kid.
- Rey is very clever when it comes to survival and technology, but she has lived an isolated and lonely life. She isn't quick to trust, but she can be very naive about the universe beyond the familiar wastelands of Jakku. Everything she knows she taught herself or learned from gossip in cantinas. Not the most reliable sources. She's fresh to many experiences and can be a bit brazen and reckless for it.
-
A seemingly innate ability to understand the mechanics of how various machinery works
Surviving in harsh environments by learning about and observing the world around her. Including environments full of dangerous creatures, violent individuals, and harsh living conditions
Learning independently through reading and simulations
- Rey isn't used to living so close to people and would prefer a private or shared room, but will take whatever is offered without complaint. She is not likely to remain there longer than necessary.
